Making Things Up

Making Things Up

One of the most interesting things about being a writer is that you can just make things up as you go.

I have a few amazing volunteer beta readers, or pre-readers, go through my novels before my final edit. It's really handy to have a second pair of eyes notice that I need to explain something further, or that a key element is missing. Or that a man's hair touched his shirt collar, and two paragraphs later it's mentioned that he's shirtless. Whoops! Hey, glitches happen.

One of my pre-readers also adds fun comments like, "This is the line that made me fall in love with this character" and "I'm not crying, it's just really dusty in here!" as she goes. It's incredibly encouraging.

At the end of Heart Shaped Spotlight, she mentioned that she really loved the singer's manager, Dave. She thought he was such a great 'take charge' sort of guy that she wished he could have his own romance. Um... Sure, why not?

I instantly sat down and started sketching out a very short, hot story where Dave finds the girl of his dreams. It's going to be a free eBook available only through my email list.

I don't quite know how it's going to end yet, but my the back of my mind always comes up with something!
